Operation
Under Glass
Mouse House, 1993
This was my second venture into
designing a miniature house 32
years ago. I was just learning
how to draw with a mouse (no pun
intended). As you can see my
mice look like nice rats! The
house is about 6.5 inches tall.
By the way, my first attempt was
in high school. I know I have
that one squirreled away
somewhere, and when I see it
next it will be put on this
page.
Ann's Dollhouse Curio Case
Having a small place, there
isn't much room for display,
plus I just don't want to dust
anymore! So I've embarked on
"Project Under Glass". That
means all my collections are
being encased in secondhand
curio cases. You'd be surprised
at the number of gently used
curio cases are for sale on eBay and CraigsList; all available for a
song!
This particular case is
destined to house my own
childhood doll furnishings and
accessories. Let's see how this
plays out...

This case cost me about $15.00
second hand.
I'll be able to remove the glue
residue with some Goof Off.

FYI,
the painted furniture came from
Germany (1950s) and was made by
the Dora Kuhn Company. Most of
the items came from Silver
Dollar City when it opened in
1960 at Branson in the Ozark
Mountains of Missouri.

Sparkly Glass Ornaments
My second favorite collection is
my ornament collection. My
mother and I went every year,
the day after Christmas, to
ornament hot spots like Kohls to
"invest" in their ornament
sales. Now my daughter and I
keep the yearly ritual going, and
have added Michaels to our
pilgrimage. So much fun and
satisfying to the magpie in us
both.

My
collection of Japanese Kokeshi
dolls

In the 1950s and 1960s these
little dolls were everywhere. I
revisited my childhood love and
purchased the nodding nesting
man and woman found top left
shelf. In back of them to the
left are the Kokeshi headed
triangular school erasers, if
you are a Baby Boomer as well,
you will also remember the
pencils with the tiny Kokeshi
on top. Every mother back then
had a pin cushion tomato
surrounded by little Asian men
hanging on for dear life. I
added the Mom and child in the
wood bath box as there were so
many of this theme back then. I
added it because it reminded me
that as a kid I couldn't figure
out why dolls in baths was a fun
theme! My collection has grown
out of control! :)

Since I do not have a post card
this week, I am sharing another
one of my (and daughter's)
collections under glass. This is
a real "I Spy" case, for I do
not think another doll would
fit! Note poor little Ginny doll
in the front seems to be losing
her head. It's rough getting
old!
